Description
It is a precision optical instrument used to measure the refractive index
of a liquid sample to determine its concentration, density, or salinity.
How It Works
- Light Refraction:
When light enters a liquid, it bends (refracts). The angle at which it bends depends directly on what is dissolved in the liquid.
- Reading the Scale:
A few drops of fluid are placed on the main prism window under the clear daylight plate. When you look through the eyepiece at the opposite end while pointing the device at a light source, you see a boundary line between a blue and white field across a built-in measurement scale.
